The mission of L.I.F.E. Garden and
Farm Program at the Lopez School is to create
sustainable local community-based organic farming
& gardening experiences that are wholly integrated
into the Lopez Island School District K-12 curriculum
& cafeteria programs.
What are the benefits
of the L.I.F.E. program?
• Healthy children are the foundation of a healthy society;
• Well-nourished children are better able to learn;
• All children deserve safe, nutritious and delicious food;
• Eating habits developed in childhood will affect health
throughout life.
Community involvement is key to the success of the L.I.F.E.
Program and is built into the L.I.F.E. mission statement.
How can I engage in
supporting L.I.F.E?
• Visit the school garden after school hours or on
weekends;
• Volunteer to assist teachers who need extra adults to
help with classes in the garden;
• Write a memoir about a garden, farm or food experience
that was meaningful to you and send it to the Lopez
students via this website;
• Donate tools; adopt a raised planting bed; sponsor a
section of fence or an orchard tree with a donation;
• Donate local farm products: organic produce, beef,
poultry, lamb, eggs, or organic compost;
• Arrange for a student gleaning team to help harvest extra
fruit or vegetables you would like to donate to the school;
• Share your “Master Gardening” Skills by giving a
community or school workshop;
• Share your ideas about the program and fundraising with
us;
• Funds are always welcome, for the salary of the L.I.F.E.
curriculum coordinator, a position necessary to the
program.
The sustainability of the L.I.F.E. program depends on
community involvement. We appreciate your support!
